Apple…Not As Evil As We Thought?

A recurring trend in Apple news recently has been the what I call “The Evil Apple” factor, from kicking in Gizmodo editor Jason Chin’s door to denying an elderly woman purchase of an iPad because she wanted to pay cash (when the story got out the gave her a free one). But perhaps they woke up on the right side of the bed, had some nice coffee, and a great omelet today. Apple has decided to take a 0.7% cut in their iPad sales so as to give its Foxconn employees a big raise in pay. Foxconn manufactures iPads, iPods, and iPhones. Now why would Apple do this? Well like any good company they decided to take a look at it’s over sea’s manufacturing partners what they found was “international manufacturing partners were committing abusive employment practices, such as using child labor or demanding unpaid overtime. According to reports, the latter was particularly common-place at the Shenzhen facility.” (DailyTech.com). Because of this Apple has helped give the employee’s of the Shenzhen factory a 20% increase in pay.
