AndroidReport: Adobe gives Android AIR, Google Docs go’s mobile, and the Droid X gets 2.2 on 9/22.

AIR:

Adobe is reporting that AIR will be available for Android dev’s on October 8th. So what is Adobe Air? AIR is a software tool developed by Adobe for platform developers. It was just recently un-ban from Apple for development on the iOS platform and will soon be available for Android developers. The nice thing about AIR is that if create for example a social networking app that works out side of a browser you could port or move that app to work on anything from a PC to iPhone. This save developers both time and sanity. For a full break down of Adobe AIR head over to this fancy post.

Google Docs gets mobile editing:

Today Google announced that documents created in Google Docs will soon be able to be edited on Android. This is very useful for the business space which often uses Google Docs to collaborate on projects. It is also a big help for us tech journalists. To reiterate, this will only work on Android devices iPhone users will have to deal with out it (Tis the reason I carry a Droid and an iPhone, iPhone to be sold soon).

Second, today we demonstrated new mobile editing capabilities for Google Docs on the Android platform and the i*ad. In the next few weeks, co-workers around the world will soon be able to co-edit files simultaneously from an even wider array of devices.

Rumor Time: Droid X to receive Android 2.2 on 9/22:

In the land of rumors today we have the Droid X and the strive to get some Froyo on this thing. The source for this rumor is a Motorola…support rep who dropped a few extra details in a conversation.

Verizon and Motorola slated the Droid X Android 2.2 OTA update for late summer of 2010. If you look at a calendar than you know that they have about three days to start the rollout. Also the Droid X running 2.1 has MS Exchange issues that will be resolved in 2.2. To keep business buyers Motorola began supplying Touchdown (a 3rd party program that allows active sync with MS Exchange servers) licenses to tide people over until 2.2. When we put these facts in the mixer things get interesting.

A Droid-Life reader contacted Motorola about getting one of the aforementioned licenses. He was told that Motorola no longer had any licenses and that Moto planned on waiting until after Android 2.2 rollout to get more of these licenses. And when did he expect the update to hit?  September 22nd.  The last day of summer.  Two days from now. Of course this is a rumor from tech support so take it with a grain of salt. If you ask us, we would say, yes Android 2.2 will start being pushed to users devices on 9/22/10. We contact both Moto and Verizon and got the usual “we are working on the update and it should be out soon” speech.
