Verizon CEO: “We have to earn the iPhone”.

In the past Verizon has talked about the iPhone 4. Today in a talk with investors at the Goldman Sachs conference, Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg stated that “We don’t feel like we have an iPhone deficit. We would love to carry it when we get there, but we have to earn it.”– “This is like the Knicks getting Carmelo Anthony. Like it would be very good if the Knicks got Carmelo Anthony. But they have to play the game whether they get Carmelo Anthony, right?” Seidenberg hinted that Verizon’s soon coming 4G LTE network might catch Apple’s eye, this also means that Apple would not have to change the iPhone over to CDMA, they simply have to put in a 4G antenna (with out antennagate) in the iPhone (LTE uses GSM). Stories suggest that this would be a massive cash crop for Verizon but what would happen to the Android line? After all Verizon is perhaps the best of the Android carriers (in terms of devices (yes Sprint your EVO rocks but you only have two phones)). W still do not know how much Verizon knows about its chances of getting an iPhone, all we know is that it will happen some day. “At some point, Apple will get with the program.” What are your thoughts on Verizon getting the iPhone? Do you think it could seriously hurt the Android line on Verizon? We will continue to follow this story as it evolves.
